AROMATIC nitro compounds have previously been detected on paper chromatograms by reduction, diazotisation and coupling with a phenol1 as this method has not been found satisfactory for 2:4-dinitrophenyl derivatives, for example, 2:4-dinitro-phenyl-amino-acids, two other methods which can be used in the presence of free amino-acids have been devised in addition to that of Grassmann and Riedel2.
