Innovative research on cardiovascular materials and devices derived from clinical needs
Yunbing Wang, PhD Director of National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials of China Dean of College of Biomedical Engineering, Sichuan University, China Prof. Yunbing Wang is well known for his contributions in the research and development of minimally invasive medical devices for various cardiovascular diseases treatment. He has more than 300 scientific papers published, more than 700 patent applications filed/issued, more than 100 invited presentations made, and 5 leading Class III cardiovascular implant products developed. He was elected as a Fellow of International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering in 2020. He is the Director of National Engineering Research Center for Biomaterials of China, Vice president of Chinese Society for Biomaterials, and Dean of College of Biomedical Engineering of Sichuan University. His research has resulted in multiple commercialized cardiovascular medical devices and saved thousands of lives in China and around the world including the first commercialized bioresorbable cardiac occluder for congenital heart disease treatment in the world, and first bioresorbable stent for cardiovascular diseases treatment. In addition to his contribution in research and product development, he has demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring and has supervised 30 Ph.D. students, and 40 master students.
