原子分子尺度带电粒子辐照损伤的微观机理(图1)
在肿瘤的放射治疗中,通常利用X射线或者是高能带电粒子来杀死癌细胞。质子和碳离子是目前放射治疗中主要使用的带电粒子,然而带电粒子杀死癌细胞的微观机制是什么,在原子分子尺度上到底发生了什么呢? 放射治疗中涉及到丰富的带电粒子与原子分子尺度物质的相互作用过程。比如,碰撞电离是其中至今没有被人们完全认识的过程: 离化电子从什么方向逃逸而且它的速度是多少?单次碰撞中有几个电子同时被离化掉?原子核在其中起着什么样的作用?我们的研究就为了回答和深入认识这些问题。
冷靶反冲离子动量谱仪COTRIMS(图2)
利用冷靶反冲离子动量谱仪COTRIMS装置(图2),则可以获得带电粒子与原子分子碰撞离化中的所有带电碎片的信息,包括电子、离子。四川大学新建的加速器装置可以提供质子、碳离子等高能带电粒子,为开展面向辐射医学物理的带电粒子碰撞诱导有机分子碎裂机制研究提供了绝佳的实验条件。
四川大学3MV串列加速器COLTRIMS谱仪(图3)
自2021年10月起,研究组在四川大学3MV串列加速器上开始建设COLTRIMS谱仪实验终端(图3),该实验装置可以开展数个MeV能量的带电粒子与原子分子尺度物质的碰撞实验。2022年5月,利用COLTRIMS谱仪实验终端成功开展了2MeV能量He2+粒子碰撞诱导氮气分子、氩等气体靶碎裂及电离过程实验。

原子极化光谱学,电子-电子相互作用中的相对论效应
在国家重大需求的惯性约束聚变、磁约束聚变等热核聚变科学研究领域中,涉及大量非完全电离等离子体,为了准确理解和模拟这类等离子体的辐射特性,需要对极端条件下基本原子过程有深入的理解和精确描述。这些原子过程常常处于高Z元素原子核的强库伦场中,相对论效应及量子电动力学效应将有重要影响。
研究组利用电子束离子阱(Electron Beam Ion Trap, EBIT)装置,Shanghai-EBIT, Tokyo-EBIT and Heidelberg-EBIT,对电子离子碰撞过程光谱的极化、角分布以及辐射分支比等特性开展了系统性的实验研究工作,并结合相对论理论方法研究了Breit相互作用等相对论效应对光谱特性的影响。
