Molecular Genetics and Genomics is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes original research articles, reviews, and perspectives on a wide range of topics related to molecular genetics and genomics at the organismal or cellular level.
Any hypothesis-driven approach to the study of genes and genomes is considered, be it experimental, theoretical or synthetic. Studies reporting only descriptive research will not be considered. MGG publishes research on all organisms that is of broad interest to those working in the fields of genetics, genomics, biology, medicine and biotechnology and animal production.
The scope of Molecular Genetics and Genomics covers a broad range of research areas, including but not limited to:

Genome structure and organization: studies that investigate the structure and organization of genomes, including the analysis of chromosome architecture, epigenetic modifications, and DNA replication.
Human molecular genetics, medical genetics, population genetics, ancient DNA studies: For submissions on association studies, we consider sample size as a minimal requirement:  Genome-wide association studies (sample size > 500), Exome-sequencing studies (sample size > 200), Candidate gene association studies (sample size >1000)
Gene expression and regulation: studies that investigate the regulation of gene expression at the transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and translational levels, including the identification of novel transcription factors and regulatory elements.
Genetic variation and evolution: studies that investigate the genetic variation and evolution of organisms, including population genetics, phylogenetics, and comparative genomics.
Molecular mechanisms of disease: studies that investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying genetic and genomic diseases, including the identification of disease-causing mutations, gene therapy approaches, and precision medicine. Studies investigating a single target as disease-causing must justify the specific relevance of this target in disease. For knock down or knock out approaches, a rescue approach to recover the phenotype in the mutants is required 
Functional genomics and proteomics: studies that investigate the functional roles of genes and proteins in cellular processes, including the use of high-throughput techniques such as transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
Biotechnology and genetic engineering: studies that investigate the applications of genetic and genomic research in biotechnology and genetic engineering, including the development of novel gene-editing tools, synthetic biology approaches, and bioinformatics tools.
