Archives of Microbiology is a broad readership, international, peer-reviewed journal, publishing significant and original contributions in all areas of basic microbiology research. 

- Welcomes biochemical, molecular, genetic, physiological, and/or physical investigations into microbial cells and their interactions with their environments,
- Publishes Reviews and Mini-Reviews, Original Research papers, Brief Reports and Comments,
- Theoretical papers and data analysis or 'mining' reports are acceptable if they provide new information, interpretations, or hypotheses.
