Prof. Dr. Zhilin Yu

Professor in College of Chemistry and Principal Investigator of State Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemical Biology

Experience and Background

2013-2017: Postdoc, Northwerstern University (Mentor: Prof. Sam Stupp)

2009-2013: Ph.D. (summa cum laude), Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin (Advisor: Prof. Stefan Hecht).

2006-2009: M.Sc., Nankai University (Advisor: Prof. Yu Liu)

2002-2006: Undergraduate, Tianjin University

Dr. Yu studied chemistry at Tianjin University and obtained his MS degree from Nankai University in 2009. Following that, he continued his graduate study under the supervision of Prof. Stefan Hecht at the Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin, where his research focused on the investigation of the structure-folding relationship of photoswitchable foldamers composed of azobenzene units. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree in 2013 (summa cum laude). He conducted his postdoctoral training with Prof. Sam Stupp at Northwestern University in the field of self-assembly of amphiphilic peptides, particularly for creation of well-defined complex nanostructures. In 2017, he began his independent career in the Institute of Polymer Science at Nankai University. His current research interests focus on the self-assembly of peptides towards biomedical materials with broad applications in antibacterial activity, artificial extracellular matrices, or disease diagosis and therapy.
