From September 22 to 24, the 172nd Science and Technology Frontier Forum of the Department of Chinese Academy of Sciences - "Carbon neutral Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Revolutionary Technology" was held in Quzhou, Zhejiang Province. The forum was hosted by the Department of Chinese Academy of Sciences, undertaken by the Department of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academic and Publishing Committee of the Department of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and co organized by the State Key Laboratory for Effective Utilization of Chemical Resources of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Quzhou Institute of Resources and Chemical Innovation, Quzhou Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, Quzhou Association for Science and Technology, and Science in China Magazine.
Mingyuan He, Xue Duan, He Tian, Buxing Han, Tao Zhang, Zaiku Xie, Yingjin Yuan and other seven academicians of the CAS Member, Qilong Ren, Jian Lv, Hualin Wang and other three academicians of the CAE Member, and more than 70 experts and scholars from more than 40 universities and scientific research institutions participated in the seminar.
During the discussion and exchange, the attending experts unanimously agreed that this forum closely integrates major national strategic needs and international technological frontiers, based on interdisciplinary integration, guided by the national "dual carbon" goal, starting from the core principles of chemical and chemical processes, discusses and exchanges transformative low-carbon technologies, breaks conventions, and creates a new technological system from the source of the industrial chain; Tracing back to the source, exploring and solving underlying scientific problems, and promoting the exploration of cutting-edge scientific theories and disruptive technologies for carbon neutrality.
The attending experts expressed their opinions, sought common ground while reserving differences, and highly affirmed the topic and significance of this forum. They summarized and condensed the forward-looking, innovative, and leading issues in the field of carbon neutrality, forming a consensus on "a complete closed loop of carbon reduction at the source, process, and end of pipe carbon sequestration in the process industry under the dual carbon goal".
In order to speed up China's carbon neutral transformative technological innovation, theoretical breakthrough, high-quality development of chemical engineering and related cross disciplines, the experts at the meeting believed that a normalized long-term mechanism should be established for the scientific and technological frontier discussion and exchange of "carbon neutral chemical transformative technology", which would lead the vast number of scientific and technological workers in this field to expand extremely macroscopically, deepen extremely microscopically, stride forward to extreme conditions, and make comprehensive efforts to the extreme, constantly expand the boundaries of chemical engineering disciplines, and promote Chinese path to modernization by self-reliance and self-improvement with high-level science and technology.
