Li-Ming ZHANG Full Professor School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University in China
Dr. Li-Ming ZHNAG is a full professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University (China). He transferred to polymer chemistry and physics when he entered the Institute of Polymer Science at the Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University as a postdoctoral fellow from July of 1994 to June of 1996. He joined the faculty in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Sun Yat-sen University as a lecturer in July of 1996, and was then promoted to an associate professor in November of 1996 as well as a full professor in June of 2002. He was the Vice Director (01/1998-12/2000, 01/2005-12/2012) and Director (01/2013-12/2016) of Polymer Research Institute at the Sun Yat-sen University. From January of 2001 to July of 2002, he worked as a research support specialist in the Department of Chemistry at the Stony Brook University and at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (X27C) in USA. From May of 2011 to May of 2012, he worked as a visiting professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Stanford University in USA. His research interests encompass polysaccharides, biopolymers, biomaterials, hydrogels, nanoparticles and functional nanocomposites. He has been in charge of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Foundation for University Key Teacher by the Ministry of Education, the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province in China, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province in China, the Doctoral Research Program of Education Ministry in China, the Scientific Research Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars and so on. As cooperative units, he was also responsible for the National 863 Program and Key Project of Clinical Discipline in Medical Institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Health in China. He has published 374 papers in academic journals at home and abroad, nearly 160 conference papers and participated in the compilation of 4 chapters of foreign English monographs, and made Plenary and Keynote invitation reports in important academic conferences for many times. 90 Chinese Patents and U.S. Patent have been applied for, including 67 authorized Chinese Patents, some of which have been transformed. As core members, he mainly undertook the 973 major project research of the Ministry of Science and Technology in China. As the first accomplisher, he has won three second-prizes and one third-prize of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award (Natural Science) in China. As the main accomplisher, he has won one second-prize of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award (Scientific and Technological Progress) in China. From March of 2016 to now, he has joined the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan) University.

Current areas of focus include the chemical and physical modification, structure-property relationship, functionalization and effective utilization of natural polymers.
