Honghui Lei earned his Ph.D. from Peking University in 2016 under the guidance of Professor Tao Ye and Zhengshuang Xu, specializing in the total synthesis of polyketides and alkaloids. Subsequently, he continued post-doctoral research at the Southern University of Science and Technology, working with Professor Xumu Zhang on the total synthesis of Kainic acid and Acromelic acid C. In 2017, he joined the research group led by Professor Tomislav Rovis at Columbia University in the United States, where he focused on Ir(III)-catalysis. In December 2020, he returned to China and started his independent career as a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Central China Normal University.
