Research Description
We are developing the science of inorganic materials from molecular building blocks.
Molecular materials containing metal ions are interesting for material science because of the rich chemistry associated to the outer electrons of the metal center. Thus, metal-containing molecular materials can show diversity special properties. In addition, their crystal engineering is a great challenge to chemists. In practice, this kind of chemistry requires a multi-disciplinary approach involving inorganic synthesis of metal complexes and frameworks, organic synthesis of the ligands and synthetic modification of frameworks. As a consequence, there is a high diversity of metal-based molecular materials, which is worth investigating for applications such as, for example, catalysis, gas storage and separation, molecule sensor, information storage and light-emitting devices.
