My interests are focused on the development and application of novel analytical methods to the solution of complex biological problems. Such methods are both experimental and computational, with the majority of the group's activities being 'dry'. The approach is typically referred to as Systems Biology. I was originally the Director of the BBSRC/EPSRC funded Manchester Centre for Integrative Systems Biology. From October 2008 to October 2013 I was seconded for 0.8 FTE to be Chief Executive of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.
