Competition between RF1and suppressor tRNAs carrying noncanonical amino acids for recognising the amber codon is largely dependent on codon context. Here, we re‐explored this phenomenon by using blue–white screening of a library in which three randomised nucleotides were upstream and downstream of the amber codon, fused within the lacZ‐α gene.
