Visualizing the interaction zoneRapidly emerging microbial resistance to antibiotics is a growing concern for the treatment of infectious diseases. In their Communication on page 15035 ff., A. Vertes et al. describe the application of laser ablation electrospray ionization (LAESI) in combination with mass spectrometry (MS) to gain deeper molecular insight into microbe–antibiotic interactions. LAESI-MS imaging enhances the quantitative nature of antibiotic susceptibility testing, while significantly reducing the required incubation time.
