α-Hydrogen spirocyclic alkoxyamines synthesis: ESR verified Nitroxides generation and their potential application in NMP polymerization

We developed a synthetic methodology using domino radical bicyclization that led to the synthesis of new spirocyclic alkoxyamines, containing an adjacent α-hydrogen to the N atom without prior obtaining their respective nitroxides. Besides, ESR studies of the alkoxyamines allowed the determination of the compound used as initiator/mediator in the bulk homopolymerization of styrene, suggesting its potential application in nitroxide-mediated polymerization (NMP).
