“SmartMat Lecture Series” by Prof. Dongil Lee —— Atomically Precise Metal Nanoclusters for Efficient Electrocatalysis
On March 14, 2024, Prof. Dongil Lee, head of the Department of Chemistry at Yonsei University, delivered a seminar entitled “Atomically Precise Metal Nanoclusters (MNCs) for Efficient Electrocatalysis” at Tianjin University. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Qiaofeng Yao, Department of Chemistry, Tianjin University.
In this seminar, Prof. Lee introduced the effects of metal doping and protecting ligands on the catalytic activity of MNCs for hydrogen evolution reactions (HER), revealing many novel design ideas for highly efficient and selective catalysts. Subsequently, Prof. Lee discussed the applications of MNCs in carbon dioxide reduction reactions (CO2RR). MNCs feature molecule-like structures which can be probed and tailorable at the atomic prevision, conducive to shedding light on many fundamental puzzles in nanocatalysis, including rate-determining steps, active sites, and structure-performance correlations. In the Q&A session after seminar, Prof. Lee exchanged minds with the faculty members and students, paving an avenue for possible collaborations.
