Postdoctoral Fellow: multiple openings in materials science, applied physics, and electrical engineering

Postdoctoral positions are available in the materials science, applied physics, and electrical engineering programs of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The openings are in the areas of device engineering and physics of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), X-ray scintillators, X-ray detectors, and solar cells; ultrafast laser spectroscopy; and computational modelling and machine learning prediction of nanostructures.

 

 

Job description:

1. Postdoctoral position opening in perovskite LEDs

Duties and Responsibilities:

·   Design and fabrication of high performance LEDs based on  perovskite nanocrystals and perovskite thin films

·   Full characterization of the device structure with state-of-the-art electrical, optical, and  materials analysis tools.

·   Development of process sequences, characterization techniques, and advanced measuring methods for high performance perovskite LED devices.

Required Qualifications:

·   Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·   Ph.D. inelectrical engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry or a closely related field.

·   Extensive experience designing and fabricating LEDs

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a background in perovskite LED devices, as well as perovskite nanocrystal synthesis. A track record of peer-reviewed publications in related areas.

2. Postdoctoral position opening in perovskite solar cells

Duties and Responsibilities:

·   Design and fabrication of high performance perovskite solar cells

·   Full characterization of the device structure with state-of-the-art electrical, optical, and  materials analysis tools.

·   Development of process sequences, characterization techniques, and advanced measuring methods for high performance perovskite solar cells.

Required Qualifications:

·   Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·   Ph.D. inelectrical engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry or a closely related field.

·   Extensive experience designing and fabricating solar cells

Preferred Qualifications:

3. Postdoctoral position opening in X-ray detection

Duties and Responsibilities:

·   Fabrication of high-performance radiation detectors and X-ray imagers.

·   Processing of novel x-ray scintillator and detection materials.

·   Full characterization of the device structure with state-of-the-art electrical, optical, and materials analysis tools.

Basic Qualifications:

·   Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·   Ph.D. in  electrical engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry or a closely related field.

·   Extensive experience with x-ray scintillators and detectors

Preferred Qualifications:

·   Experience in synthesis of novel semiconductor materials such as perovskite nanocrystals and single crystals.

·   Experience with X-ray sources, photoluminescence, X-ray imaging and detection.

4. Postdoctoral position opening in Ultrafast Spectroscopy

Duties and Responsibilities:

•      Conduct research in ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy of nanomaterials including 2D   

        materials and perovskites.

•       Analyze and interpret time-resolved experimental data

•       Function as an independent researcher with a high-level of attention to detail.

•       Great ability to write and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner.

Basic Qualifications:

·       Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·       Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Optics, Materials Science, or a closely related field.

·       Experience with ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopic techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

 An excellent record of productive and creative research as shown by peer-reviewed publications.

5. Postdoctoral position opening in materials growth modelling and machine learning prediction

Duties and Responsibilities:

·   Modeling the growth processes of perovskite nanocrystals and nanostructures.

·   Nanomaterials design and prediction via machine learning

·   Understanding the interactions between guest molecules/polymers and metal-organic frameworks by molecular dynamics simulations.

·   Collaborate with experimental researchers by providing experimental predictions and materials design.

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

·   Experience with machine learning models and algorithms to predict materials properties and guide experimental design

·   Extensive experience in classical molecular dynamics simulations of organic/inorganic materials. Experience in at least one classical molecular dynamics code such as LAMMPS software package.

·   Experience in programming such as Python coding.

·   Knowledge and experience working with high performance computing.

·   Knowledge of photophysics and photochemistry.
