On April 26th, the New Battery Research Institute for the School of Materials and Energy at Guangdong University of Technology (GBRI) and Guangzhou Development District Communications Investment Group Co.LTD(GDDC) held a signing event for strategic cooperation agreement, marking the beginning of a new cooperation between them, jointly laying out the sodium battery industry chain and entering a new track in the energy storage industry. Professor Shi Zhicong, postdoctoral fellow Shen Zhichuan of the GBRI, and Chairman Fu Qiang, General Manager Zhou Chengcheng, Deputy General Manager Fan Shuhong, and relevant personnel of the GDDC attended the signing event.
The GBRI is a research center for critical materials of high-performance batteries. It has established a research platform centered on the Smart Energy Research Center and the Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for New Energy Materials and Devices. It has a firm basis for the field of power and energy storage batteries, and has a mature soft pack battery assembly test line and battery performance evaluation platform. We have independently developed the critical design and preparation technologies of high-performance and condensed-state sodium battery core materials, and have the ability to independently research and manufacture, which have strong advantages in achievement transformation and market prospects.
2023 is the first year of mass production of sodium batteries. It is reported that China's sodium ion battery related enterprises increased by about 200 from 2010 to 2022,and the number of sodium battery patents increased rapidly, reaching 2439. It is expected that the sodium ion battery market size will be 39.8 billion yuan by 2025. Leading enterprises such as CATL, BYD, Guangzhou Penghui, and Dofluoro have also entered the sodium ion battery market, and the era of sodium ion battery industrialization is approaching.
