In this review, we outline an overview of the achievements in surfactants-assisted synthesis of MOFs-derived transition metal-nitrogen-carbon as a highly efficient electrocatalyst for ORR, OER, and HER. The influences including synthesis strategies, roles of surfactants toward controlled morphology and structure, and evaluation of catalytic performance are highlighted. Furthermore, some of the main challenges currently faced by the catalysts are summarized.
