Zhu Zhiqiang, a second year master's student in the group, published a paper as the first author in a region 1 journal of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) under the supervision of Mr Lu Hailin. In this study, ceramic coatings were prepared for aluminium alloys under different electrolyte flow rates by scanning micro-arc oxidation (SMAO) using a counter electrode motion system. The optimized electrolyte flow rate parameters were determined, and the coating formation mechanism was revealed, which is of great significance for the optimization of the SMAO process and its application in the fields of intelligent manufacturing and aerospace, etc.
