Yang (Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry, FRSC) is a Professor at the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering (NIMTE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He received B.A. and M. Chem. degrees from University of Liverpool and completed his Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry under the supervision of Professor J. Paul Attfield (Fellow of Royal Society, FRS) at University of Edinburgh in 2010. This was followed by a postdoctoral appointment in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell University, where he worked on nano-structured solid state functional materials with Francis J. DiSalvo (a John A. Newman Professor of Physical Sciences, Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Member of National Academy of Sciences). He has received several awards for his work including the National Overseas High-Level Talents (Youth Project) for Distinguished Professorship (2013), Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shenyang) Young Distinguished Scientist (2014), Liaoning Research Prize (2015), Zhejiang Overseas High-Level Talents (2016) and Ningbo Leading Scientist Prize (2017), and Zhejiang National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2019).
