Congratulations to Shu Xing for passing the doctoral defense and becoming Dr. Shu!

       On the afternoon of May 10th, the doctoral dissertation defense of Shu Xing, a graduate student from our school's class of 2019, supervised by Professor Chen Zheng, was successfully held in Room 308 of the College. This defense also marked the first doctoral dissertation defense in the field of transportation engineering at our school. The chairman of the defense committee was Professor Shu Hongchun, a "Yunling Scholar" supported by Yunnan Province's "Xingdian Talent Support Program" and former Vice President of Kunming University of Science and Technology. The members of the defense expert group included Professor Wu Jiande, a "Yunling Scholar" supported by Yunnan Province's "Xingdian Talent Support Program" and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Yunnan University; Professor Lei Jilin, an industrial technology leader supported by Yunnan Province's "Xingdian Talent Support Program," a young academic and technical leader in Yunnan Province, and the dean of the School of Transportation Engineering at Kunming University of Science and Technology; Professor Hu Xiaosong, a National Thousand Talents Program expert, a special appointed expert under the "One Hundred-Person Plan" of Chongqing Municipality, a Marie Curie scholar of the European Union, and a professor at Chongqing University; and Professor Xu Jun, the deputy director of the Shaanxi Power Supply Society, the dean of Green Energy and IntelliCharge-Xi'an Jiaotong University Digital Energy Research Institute, and a professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University. Professor Guo Fengxiang, the vice dean of the school, served as the secretary of the defense.



The members of the defense expert group demonstrated a highly responsible attitude towards academia and a rigorous academic spirit. They carefully listened to the doctoral candidate's presentation on the thesis titled "Research on Key State Estimation of Vehicle Power Lithium Batteries in Complex Operating Environments." They provided comprehensive and detailed comments on various aspects of the thesis, including the topic selection, framework, literature review, research content, argumentation methods, and innovative aspects. They also raised questions regarding the core issues of the thesis, pointed out the problems and shortcomings, and provided valuable suggestions for revision. The doctoral candidate responded to the committee's questions with a clear mindset and accepted their feedback humbly. This experience provided further guidance for the revision of the thesis and the candidate's future career direction.

The defense lasted for a lengthy 2.5 hours and served as a profound teaching session where mentors imparted knowledge and resolved doubts. It was also an academic feast that facilitated mutual learning. The benefits were not only limited to the participating doctoral candidate but also extended to over 40 faculty members and students present as observers. In the end, the defense committee unanimously approved the doctoral dissertation defense of Shu Xing with a score of 92.86 and recommended conferring the degree of Doctor of Engineering.
